| location other than factory. I have found in every instance I have come across that the knock sensor's signal will indicate knock when it is not present. I presume it is due to the increased amplitude of vibration that occurs due to the increased distance from the rotating components within the engine. Given that our ecu is comparing the detonation sensor's signal amplitude to a pre-defined threshold each time the plug is fired and the relocated sensor will be subject to greater vibrational amplitudes, this will cause a retard of ignition timing (which adversely affects performance) and can lead to intermittent safety boost condition. FWIW, the det sensor doesn't monitor over about 3600RPM anyway. IMHO, it is practically useless and an unfortunate under-engineered component of our EFI system.
